Learn about the eastern gorillas in Africa.
The Eastern gorilla is the largest of all the gorillas. This specie is found in only three African countries. The Eastern gorilla is further divided into two sub species;
- the Mountain Gorilla – living in the Virunga Massif and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. These gorillas are found in only Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo. There is no such specie in the zoos.
- The Grauer’s gorilla or eastern lowland gorilla (Gorilla beringei graueri) endemic to the mountainous part of Eastern Congo. It is protected in two known parks; Kahuzi Biega National Park and Maiko National Park.
